DECONGESTION AHEAD: NAIA ADJUSTS REMOTE PARKING FOR FOREIGN AIRCRAFT

Several large foreign aircraft that have been grounded at Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) since the Middle East conflict began are set to be transferred to Clark International Airport and other regional hubs to ease congestion.

The Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) said the planes have been parked in Manila since February 28, 2026, due to airspace closures from the war.

NAIA’s parking capacity is strained, but airline operations have not been fully suspended; some flights by carriers such as Etihad, Emirates, Qatar Airways, and Kuwait Airways are still departing when airspace allows.

So far, 372 flights have been affected, including cancellations by Philippine Airlines and Cebu Pacific, though daily passenger flow remains stable at 152,000 to 158,000 travelers.

MIAA General Manager Eric Ines noted that flight schedules are now adjusted based on safe airspace availability rather than original timetables.
