The Supreme Court’s disbarment of lawyer Demosthenes Tecson has caused controversy after the high court’s press release linked former senator Leila de Lima to the case.
The disbarment stemmed from Tecson’s mishandling of a P134 million compensation, where he only remitted P53 million to clients and allegedly kept the rest for his fees and de Lima’s senatorial campaign.
De Lima, who denied any connection to Tecson, demanded a public clarification from the Supreme Court, calling the allegation “utterly false.”
In a letter to the court, she criticized the inclusion of her name in the press release and vowed to take legal action to clear her name.
The Supreme Court has yet to respond or release the full disbarment decision.
