Women’s rights advocates have filed an ethics complaint against Quezon City Rep. Bong Suntay over sexist remarks he made during a livestreamed hearing.
The move was supported by Gabriela party-list Rep. Sarah Jane Elago and other lawmakers, including Reps. Ysabel Zamora, Ma. Ann Lourdes Matibag, Renee Co, and Dadah Kiram Ismula.
Suntay compared a sexualized remark by Vice President Sara Duterte to his own sexual thoughts about actress Anne Curtis, prompting calls for sanctions.
The complaint, filed by former Gabriela representative Liza Maza and women’s groups, cites violations of the Safe Spaces Act and the Magna Carta for Women.
Human rights advocates say Suntay’s remarks constitute gender-based sexual harassment and reinforce harmful stereotypes about women, calling for accountability and stricter consequences.
