COMELEC TO BOOST PARTY-LIST SEATS BY ONE IN UPCOMING ALLOCATION

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) will add a 64th party-list seat in the House of Representatives for the 20th Congress, increasing from the 63 seats allocated during the May 2025 polls.

Comelec Chairperson George Garcia said the Commission en banc approved the move but noted the House of Representatives must be consulted.

The 1987 Constitution mandates that 20 percent of the House must be composed of party-list members.

Comelec has also asked its Law Department and Supervisory Committee to recommend which group should receive the new seat.

Meanwhile, the Commission is reviewing the possible cancellation of Duterte Youth’s registration, following a recent ruling to revoke their party-list status over sector misrepresentation claims.
