The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has extended the grace period for candidates to dismantle their campaign materials to five days following the 2025 national and local elections.
Comelec Chairman George Garcia explained that the extension was made in consideration of the logistical difficulties candidates face in removing thousands of posters, tarpaulins, and banners.
Previously, the grace period was shorter, but complaints from candidates and local government units led to the reassessment.
Garcia emphasized that the responsibility for removal still lies with the candidates, regardless of whether they win or lose.
He warned that failure to comply within the five days could result in sanctions, underscoring that the cleanup is part of maintaining the integrity and orderliness of the election process.
