COMELEC CONSIDERS REVISING SOCIAL MEDIA GUIDELINES

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) is considering amendments to its social media campaign rules following lessons learned from the US elections.

Chairman George Garcia emphasized the need for guidelines to protect citizens’ rights amid the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in political campaigns, which can influence voters and spread disinformation.

Garcia mentioned that Comelec commissioners are currently observing the US elections for insights.

Meanwhile, the Makabayan coalition raised concerns that their social media accounts could be at risk under the new guidelines.
