COMELEC BEGINS EARLY PREP FOR THE 2028 PRESIDENTIAL ELECTIONS

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) will begin its preparations for the 2028 presidential elections by 2026 to ensure greater transparency and efficiency, Chairman George Erwin Garcia said on Tuesday.

Garcia emphasized the need for a two-year lead time to address issues encountered in the 2025 midterm polls and to implement reforms based on lessons learned.

Plans include early delivery of vote-counting machines by 2027 and revisions to ballot paper and pens to avoid technical problems like blotting.

Comelec is also taking into account recommendations from election watchdogs, international observers, and stakeholders.

Garcia stressed that while the 2025 elections were orderly, improvements are still needed for future polls.
