COMELEC APPROVES DSWD’S ELECTION BAN EXEMPTION FOR AKAP AND OTHER AID PROGRAMS

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has granted the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) an exemption from the election spending ban for its programs, including the controversial Ayuda sa Kapos ang Kita Program (AKAP).

The exemption also covers programs like 4Ps and AICS, ensuring continuity despite the midterm election period.

However, Comelec emphasized that these programs must not influence the elections.

DSWD welcomed the approval, assuring safeguards against political exploitation.

Additionally, the Department of Budget and Management is exploring triggers to ensure only qualified recipients benefit from AKAP.
