Senate President Francis Escudero announced that the Senate will no longer accept any delays or requests to extend deadlines in the impeachment trial of Vice President Sara Duterte.
He rejected the House prosecution panel’s request to immediately summon Duterte, stating that the impeachment court can only be convened when the Senate is in session.
Congress is currently on break and will resume on June 2, which is the earliest date the impeachment court can begin its proceedings.
Escudero explained that the Articles of Impeachment can only be presented and a summons issued once the Senate is back in session.
He also advised the House prosecutors not to rush the process, as it could lead to vulnerabilities in the case.
