China has arrested three Filipinos for alleged espionage, claiming they were gathering intelligence on military deployments.
According to Chinese state media, one Filipino living in China was allegedly directed by a Philippine intelligence handler to visit areas near military facilities.
The arrests came shortly after the Chinese embassy in Manila warned its citizens about alleged harassment by Philippine authorities.
Meanwhile, Philippine authorities recently arrested six Chinese nationals and two accomplices in Subic Bay for allegedly spying on US and Philippine Navy ship movements.
China’s extensive state surveillance, which has intensified under President Xi Jinping, played a key role in uncovering the alleged espionage activities.
