Honda Motor Co. Ltd. is urging the Philippine government to extend the zero import tariffs on electric vehicles (EVs) and hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs) beyond 2028 to boost EV adoption in the country.
Toshio Kuwahara, Honda’s vice president for regional operations, stated that extending the zero tariff period would positively impact the automotive industry and accelerate electrification.
Executive Order 62 currently allows zero import duties for battery electric vehicles, HEVs, and certain parts until 2028, but hybrid models face a 50-percent excise duty despite enjoying zero import tariffs.
Honda is committed to expanding its EV lineup in the Philippines, aiming for EVs to comprise 40 percent of its global sales by 2030 and 100 percent by 2040.
The company recently launched its electrification campaign, introducing new models like the Civic e:HEV, and plans to enhance its product offerings to promote a greener future.
