CABINET OFFICIAL LINKS LATE DPWH EXEC TO ₱20B FLOOD CONTROL SCAM

Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla said former public works undersecretary Maria Catalina Cabral may have amassed as much as ₱20 billion in ill-gotten wealth from anomalous flood control and infrastructure projects during her nearly decade-long stint at the DPWH.

Remulla described Cabral as a key figure in the alleged scandal, saying all projects under the National Expenditure Program passed through her office based on witness testimonies.

Cabral died on Dec. 18 after falling into a ravine in Benguet, which authorities initially classified as suicide, while investigators continue to examine her gadgets and records for possible links to the alleged corruption.

The PNP, NBI, and Office of the Ombudsman are conducting parallel and forensic investigations after DPWH turned over computers and files from Cabral’s office.

Meanwhile, several lawmakers have filed a resolution seeking a comprehensive congressional probe into both Cabral’s death and the alleged flood control scam.
