The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) announced that all coin deposit machines in malls across the Greater Manila Area will temporarily cease operations starting June 17.
The public can still use these machines to deposit coins until June 16.
The suspension aims to allow the BSP to study ways to improve coin circulation and the currency exchange service.
Since their launch in 2023, the 25 machines have collected nearly P1.5 billion in coins from the public.
During the suspension, consumers with bank accounts can deposit clean coins at banks, while those without accounts can exchange coins at selected financial institutions under the BSP Piso Caravan program.
