BOC BEATS TARGET: P8 BILLION REVENUE SURPLUS RECORDED IN Q1 2024!

The Bureau of Customs (BOC) has reported a surplus of PHP8.489 billion in revenue collection for the first quarter of 2024.

BOC Assistant Commissioner Vincent Philip Maronilla announced that the total revenue collected reached PHP219.385 billion, surpassing its target by PHP8 billion. attributing the surplus to voluntary payments by companies, audit findings, and revenue from public auctions.

Maronilla also highlighted the seizure of PHP11.8 billion worth of smuggled goods from January to March, with cigarettes being among the most commonly smuggled items.

Furthermore, Maronilla stated that the BOC’s digitalization process is nearly complete, with 96.99% of its processes now digitalized.

This initiative aims to minimize face-to-face transactions and reduce corruption. However, an investigation is underway regarding a security breach in the BOC system, with measures implemented to prevent further breaches.

Systems affected include the auction and disposal system, pre-payment, internal system, and customer care portal system.
