The House of Representatives has approved on second reading House Bill 10987, which bans offshore gaming operations in the country.
The measure was passed via voice vote and imposes strict penalties, including fines and imprisonment of up to 10 years for repeat offenders.
President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. had already ordered a ban on Philippine offshore gaming operators (POGOs) in his 2024 State of the Nation Address.
Lawmakers argue the ban will address crime and economic concerns linked to POGOs. The bill now moves closer to final approval in the House.
