Bayan Muna criticized Senator Imee Marcos’ bid for Senate presidency, calling it a “power play for protection.”
Marcos claimed some colleagues support her replacing Senate President Chiz Escudero.
Former Bayan Muna party-list Rep. Ferdinand Gaite warned that if Marcos or a Duterte ally leads the Senate, Vice President Sara Duterte may avoid impeachment or accountability.
Duterte faces allegations including misuse of confidential funds and other charges, with an impeachment court set to convene on June 3.
Gaite also accused Marcos’ alliance with the Dutertes of being a political move to protect mutual interests rather than promote good governance.
