BAIL GRANTED TO ‘MALETA BOYS’ IN PERJURY CASE

Ten alleged former security aides and bagmen of fugitive lawmaker Zaldy Co, known as the “maleta boys,” were released from police custody after posting bail.

The Las Piñas Regional Trial Court ordered their release after each paid P74,040 for four counts of perjury.

The cases were filed by Rep. Leila de Lima, former senator Antonio Trillanes IV, former national security adviser Eduardo Año, and Bureau of Corrections chief Gregorio Catapang Jr.

Their lawyer, Levi Baligod, criticized the court’s handling of the bail process as “irregular and unusual.”

The 10 were arrested Friday after failing to post bail before the court closed and spent the night in police custody.
