Police said there is no evidence linking a man beaten by residents to the fire that hit Barangay Central, Quezon City, on Tuesday.
QCPD director Brig. Gen. Christopher Olazo did not confirm claims that the man, identified only as Vin, intentionally started the fire.
The blaze displaced more than 100 families along Waling-Waling Street.
The fire broke out at around 12:47 p.m. and reached the fifth alarm.
Firefighters contained the blaze at 3:35 p.m., while police urged the public not to spread unverified information.
