ADVOCATES PUSH FOR INCREASED SENIOR COVERAGE IN PHILHEALTH

Senior Citizen Party-list Rep. Rodolfo Ordanes has called on the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth) to expand its coverage for senior citizens, especially as nonpaying members.

He criticized PhilHealth for not fully utilizing the P89 billion subsidy from the national government, which was intended to extend coverage for nonpaying members, including seniors.

Ordanes emphasized that the subsidy was meant to help more senior citizens access PhilHealth’s healthcare packages and prevent medical emergencies.

He also highlighted the need for PhilHealth to improve its registration efforts and increase the availability of health services for the elderly.

To address these gaps, Ordanes recommended that PhilHealth implement proactive initiatives, such as nationwide registration campaigns and stronger collaboration with local government units.
