Senator Juan Miguel Zubiri broke his silence on Wednesday about his removal from Senate leadership two years ago, expressing disappointment over what he described as betrayal by former political allies.
He said his ouster was linked to political tensions involving Senate hearings on alleged “PDEA leaks” and not the Duterte family, as administration allies later withdrew their support.
Zubiri claimed several colleagues, including Senators Ronald dela Rosa, Bong Go, Imee Marcos, and Robin Padilla, had earlier expressed loyalty before eventually turning against him.
He also defended his decision to remain with the Senate minority bloc, saying it was guided by principles amid continued political pressure to rejoin the majority.
Zubiri added that he chose integrity over political convenience, even if it meant losing the chance to regain Senate leadership.
