The Zambales provincial government has terminated two major infrastructure projects worth nearly P1 billion after the contractor, St. Gerrard Construction, lost its license amid a national investigation into anomalous flood control projects.
The cancelled projects include a P499.6-million new Capitol building and a P499-million sports complex, both awarded to St. Gerrard, owned by Pacifico and Sarah Discaya.
Governor Hermogenes Ebdane Jr. also scrapped a separate P399.7-million hospital annex project handled by Hi-Tone Construction, another firm under scrutiny for securing a large share of flood control contracts.
Despite both contractors performing satisfactorily and staying ahead of schedule, their contracts were ended due to broader concerns tied to national irregularities.
The provincial government plans to resume the projects through new public bidding or by directly taking over construction.
