A senior National Bureau of Investigation agent told the impeachment court that Vice President Sara Duterte’s alleged assassination threat against President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. was “absolute” based on the agency’s investigation.
Senior NBI agent John Mark Calilung, the prosecution’s first witness, testified about remarks Duterte allegedly made during an online briefing in November 2024.
During questioning by Senator-judge Alan Peter Cayetano, Calilung maintained that the alleged threat was not merely conditional despite references to a triggering event.
The alleged plot also mentioned First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos and former House Speaker Martin Romualdez as targets.
The incident forms part of the fourth article of impeachment filed against Duterte.
