The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) has removed nearly 750 metric tons of garbage and debris from the Redemptorist Water Channel in Parañaque since Monday.
The waste, equivalent to about 203 truckloads, will be brought to landfills in Rizal after accumulating when a trash trap broke during heavy rains and high tide.
The MMDA also deployed teams to clean Manila’s Dolomite Beach, where garbage had washed ashore.
The agency said it will continue inspecting and clearing waterways to prevent flooding and prepare for weather disturbances.
Meanwhile, the Philippine National Police urged officers to lead by example by enforcing proper waste segregation and disposal.
