Less than a week after the elections, Vice President Sara Duterte revealed she asked her brother, Rep. Paolo Duterte, to consider running for either House speakership or minority leadership, though he has yet to respond.
Sara suggested the minority leadership as a fallback if he does not win the speakership, but said he is still thinking about it.
She has no other preferred candidates for House or Senate leadership and has not been approached for endorsements.
The remarks come amid rumors of a possible leadership shakeup in the 20th Congress, which House Speaker Martin Romualdez’s allies have denied, citing strong support with over 240 members backing him.
The tension between Duterte and the Marcos-Romualdez clan grew last year after Romualdez pushed to cut her office’s confidential funds.
