Vice President Sara Duterte visited Kuwait on Friday to meet with overseas Filipinos, with her office defending her frequent foreign travels as part of her mandate to advocate for the welfare of Filipinos abroad.
The Office of the Vice President (OVP) emphasized that her trips comply with government regulations and use no public funds.
Duterte’s travels have drawn criticism from Malacañang and Congress, especially after her father’s arrest by the International Criminal Court, with officials questioning the necessity and timing of her trips.
Palace spokesperson Claire Castro stressed that foreign travel is not part of the vice president’s constitutional duties and accused Duterte of using trips to discredit the president.
Meanwhile, lawmakers have called for transparency on Duterte’s travel records amid investigations into the OVP’s confidential funds during her tenure.
