Vice President Sara Duterte returned to Manila after nearly a month in the Netherlands assisting her father, former President Rodrigo Duterte, with legal preparations for his upcoming trial at the International Criminal Court (ICC) for crimes against humanity.
She confirmed the hiring of veteran ICC lawyer Nicholas Kaufman and helped finalize her father’s legal team while visiting him at Scheveningen Prison.
Her return comes amid her upcoming impeachment trial over alleged misuse of P612.5 million in confidential funds.
House Deputy Majority Leader Paolo Ortega welcomed her return but stressed the need for her to finally address the allegations.
Meanwhile, legal experts expect the ICC trial process to accelerate, although jurisdictional challenges may delay the September 25 hearing.
