VILLAR FAMILY WILLING TO DONATE LAND FOR LRT-1 CAVITE, SAYS DOTR CHIEF

Transportation Secretary Giovanni Lopez said the Villar family is willing to donate land needed for the completion of the Light Rail Transit Line 1 (LRT-1) Cavite Extension, saying right-of-way acquisition is no longer a major obstacle to the project.

Lopez said the proposed land donation could help speed up construction of the remaining Cavite segment while stressing that property acquisition issues are minimal.

He also said the Department of Transportation will conduct a traffic study before deciding whether to dismantle the C-5 Quirino flyover, noting that officials are also exploring a design that would allow the flyover and the elevated railway to coexist.

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has directed the DOTr to resolve right-of-way concerns affecting the project, which the Light Rail Transit Authority aims to complete before the end of his term in 2028.

Once finished, the LRT-1 Cavite Extension will provide a direct rail link connecting Cavite, Las Piñas, and Parañaque to key areas in Metro Manila.
