Senator Mark Villar and contractors Cezarah and Pacifico Discaya appeared before the Independent Commission for Infrastructure (ICI) on Tuesday as part of its ongoing probe into alleged anomalies in the Department of Public Works and Highways’ (DPWH) flood control projects.
ICI Executive Director Brian Keith Hosaka said Villar, who served as DPWH secretary under former president Rodrigo Duterte, explained the processes he implemented during his term and reiterated that no irregularities occurred under his watch.
The Discaya couple, meanwhile, requested a seven-day extension to submit documents sought by the commission.
Hosaka said the ICI may also summon Customs and LTO officials to investigate luxury vehicles owned by the Discayas that were seized for possible smuggling violations.
He dismissed rumors of internal rifts within the ICI, assuring that the body remains united and determined to uncover the truth behind the alleged corruption.
