The United States military will construct a boat maintenance facility at the Philippine Navy’s Oyster Bay detachment in Puerto Princesa, Palawan, to support the repair and upkeep of small Philippine military watercraft.
The US Embassy emphasized that the facility is not a military base and has been approved by the Philippine government in compliance with local and US regulations.
The Oyster Bay detachment has previously been used for missions supplying troops stationed at Ayungin Shoal in the West Philippine Sea.
Meanwhile, the Philippine Coast Guard pledged to strengthen efforts against China’s aggression in the West Philippine Sea, highlighting ongoing maritime patrols and plans to acquire additional ships.
The US-Philippine alliance, rooted in the 1951 Mutual Defense Treaty, continues to be a cornerstone of regional security and cooperation.
