US SUSPENDS CONSULAR SERVICES IN MEXICALI OVER POTENTIAL THREAT

The United States issued a travel alert for Americans visiting Mexicali, Mexico, and temporarily suspended consular activities in the border city due to an unspecified “potential threat.”

The US government did not disclose details about the threat but urged Americans to avoid government buildings, stay alert, and seek shelter if an incident occurs.

Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum said the alert was reportedly linked to the possibility of activity by a criminal group, based on information from US agencies.

Mexican authorities later said they had found no evidence of a specific or imminent threat to the public but increased surveillance and security patrols as a precaution.

Mexicali remained calm despite the alert, while state officials pledged to reinforce security operations in the city and across Baja California.
