US-PHILIPPINE MILITARY COOPERATION RESUMES IN BATANES

Filipino and US troops trained in Pekiti-Tirsia Kali, a Filipino martial art, alongside mortar firing drills in Basco, Batanes, as part of the ongoing Balikatan 40-2025 exercises.

Lt. Col. John Paul Salgado said the activities enhanced tactical proficiency and interoperability between the two forces, with both also sharing techniques in indirect fire support using 81mm mortars.

The drills were part of the Philippine Marine Corps Martial Arts Program and highlighted the growing defense cooperation between the allies.

In Palawan, troops also conducted an Amphibious Landing Rehearsal ahead of a larger assault drill in Balabac, reinforcing their ability to operate in key maritime terrain.

Balikatan 2025, which involves over 14,000 troops from the Philippines, the US, and partner nations, runs until May 9.
