The University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) is bringing back its girls’ basketball tournament after a five-year hiatus, with the event set to kick off on Thursday at the Filoil EcoOil Centre.
The four participating teams this season are the University of Santo Tomas, Ateneo High School, De La Salle-Zobel, and National University Nazareth School (NUNS).
Despite the limited number of teams, NUNS head coach Camilla Escoto is optimistic about the growth of women’s basketball, noting that the tournament provides an essential platform for young athletes to showcase their talents.
Coaches from UST and Ateneo also expressed their excitement, emphasizing the importance of the tournament in developing future basketball players for the collegiate level and beyond.
Several players from the inaugural 2019 season have already gone on to make an impact in collegiate basketball, highlighting the potential of the new generation of talent.
