TWO COMELEC COMMISSIONERS STEP DOWN FROM POSITIONS

Two Commissioners from the Commission on Elections (Comelec), Socorro Inting and Marlon Casquejo, are retiring on February 3 after completing their seven-year term.

Despite their departure, Comelec Chairman George Erwin Garcia assured that the commission still has sufficient members to handle pending election cases and other operational matters.

Inting headed the First Division and Casquejo the Second Division, both of whom were appointed during the Duterte administration.

Garcia urged President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. to appoint their replacements promptly, emphasizing that a full seven-member commission would be more efficient.

Garcia also expressed a preference for appointing someone familiar with the commission’s processes, suggesting an insider could adapt more quickly than an outsider.
