Raffy Tulfo has filed Senate Resolution 393 calling for a review of safety measures and monitoring systems protecting Filipino seafarers deployed in high-risk maritime regions such as the Persian Gulf.
Tulfo cited the recent drone strike on MV CMA CGM San Antonio near the Strait of Hormuz that injured seven Filipino crew members, as well as health concerns involving 38 Filipino sailors aboard MV Hondius.
The senator emphasized the need to evaluate coordination, compliance, and emergency response mechanisms under the Magna Carta of Seafarers.
He said the review aims to strengthen protections and ensure the welfare of Filipino seafarers amid growing global maritime risks.
The Department of Migrant Workers earlier confirmed that the Filipino crew members aboard MV Hondius remain free from hantavirus infection.
