TRANSPORT GROUPS SAY ₱1 FARE HIKE NOT ENOUGH TO OFFSET FUEL COSTS

Transport groups said the approved ₱1 fare increase for land transport is insufficient to offset losses caused by recent fuel price hikes, with some groups seeking an additional ₱1 increase.

The groups are holding a strike until tomorrow to demand lower pump prices and the suspension of fuel-related taxes, while the LTFRB said pending petitions for higher fares will be evaluated based on operators’ expenses and submitted evidence.

Meanwhile, the Department of Energy announced minimum price cuts of ₱0.24 per liter for gasoline, ₱7.57 for diesel, and ₱5.85 for kerosene this week amid easing supply concerns.

The Bureau of Internal Revenue also suspended excise taxes on LPG and kerosene after the average Dubai crude oil price exceeded the threshold for fuel excise tax suspension.

Under the approved fare adjustment, traditional jeepney fares will rise from ₱13 to ₱14 and modern jeepney fares from ₱15 to ₱17, with fare matrices required for display beginning January 1, 2027.
