Trabaho party-list is urging the Philippine government to prioritize worker safety in the event of a strong earthquake, citing the recent earthquake in Myanmar and Thailand as a reminder of the country’s vulnerability to seismic events.
Party-list spokesperson Mitchell-David Espiritu emphasized the need for stricter enforcement of building codes and comprehensive workplace safety protocols.
He also highlighted the importance of proactive disaster preparedness measures, especially in light of the potential risks from the West Valley Fault.
The government has assessed over 21,000 public buildings for earthquake readiness, and there are calls for the passage of the Philippine Building Act to address outdated infrastructure standards.
Trabaho is advocating for a multi-faceted approach to disaster preparedness, including regular safety drills and employee training programs to ensure resilience in workplaces.
