The retail price of tomatoes in Metro Manila has doubled, reaching P180 per kilo due to the impact of Super Typhoon Enteng on key agricultural regions.
The typhoon caused P31.13 million in crop losses, affecting 358 hectares and reducing production by 755 metric tons.
The Department of Agriculture noted that before the typhoon, tomato dumping occurred in Nueva Vizcaya due to oversupply.
Agriculture Secretary Francisco Tiu Laurel Jr. promised to address these issues by constructing large cold storage facilities to stabilize prices and reduce wastage.
He emphasized that proper storage could prevent future price fluctuations and minimize losses of harvested crops.
