The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has officially adopted an ordinance to increase the number of councilor seats in Taguig City to 12 and to include the 10 Embo barangays in its first and second legislative districts.
The resolution, released on Thursday, emphasizes the necessity of this change due to the growing population of Taguig, ensuring better representation for voters.
Comelec Chairman George Garcia confirmed that residents of the Embo barangays can participate in the 2025 elections, although a separate resolution is required for them to vote for congressional representatives.
Discussions are ongoing regarding their eligibility to vote for congressional positions, and Garcia indicated that if approved, these residents could also run for congressman in their respective districts.
The recent adoption of House Concurrent Resolution No. 37 in the House of Representatives aligns with the Senate’s earlier decision to enhance representation in Taguig and Pateros.
