SURVEY: 38% OF FILIPINOS OPTIMISTIC ABOUT ECONOMIC GROWTH AHEAD

A recent survey by OCTA Research reveals insights into Filipino sentiments regarding the country’s economic outlook and quality of life.

According to the December 2023 findings, 38% of adult Filipinos anticipate an improvement in the national economy over the next six months, with 51% expecting it to remain the same and 8% foreseeing a decline. Notably, Class ABC respondents exhibited the highest optimism (51%), while Class E respondents expressed more pessimism (12%).

Regional disparities in economic outlook were evident, with Northern Mindanao recording the highest optimism (66%) and Davao Region the lowest (10%). Conversely, the Bicol Region had the highest proportion (81%) anticipating stability. OCTA reported an overall increase in economic optimism from 27% in October 2023 to 38% in December 2023, accompanied by a decrease in pessimism from 14% to 8%.

Regarding quality of life, 49% of Filipino adults anticipate improvements, while 45% expect it to remain unchanged and 4% anticipate a decline. Optimism was highest in the Visayas (58%) and lowest in Mindanao (40%). The survey indicated a 15% rise in optimism about quality of life compared to October 2023, with pessimism declining from 7% to 4%.

Conducted from December 10 to 14, 2023, the survey involved face-to-face interviews with 1,200 adults nationwide, carrying a margin of error of ±3% at a 95% confidence level.
