A recent study published by media monitoring company Meltwater and social media agency We are Social has revealed that the number of active social media users has exceeded 5 billion, accounting for approximately 62.3% of the global population.
The study highlights a 5.6% increase in social media users over the past year, surpassing the 0.9% growth in the world’s population.
According to the report, Meta’s Facebook leads the pack with 2.19 billion users, followed closely by Meta’s Instagram with 1.65 billion users. TikTok trails behind with 1.56 billion users.
However, the report cautions that obtaining precise figures is challenging due to automated accounts and individuals using multiple identities.
The study also notes that the most searched entry on Wikipedia was “ChatGPT,” an AI language model developed by OpenAI, indicating the growing interest in artificial intelligence.
The report is based on data compiled by digital consultancy company Kepios.
