The government of South Korea has pledged to continue supporting peacebuilding and development efforts in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao, according to Korean Ambassador Lee Sang-hwa during his first official visit to Cotabato City.
The envoy emphasized Seoul’s commitment to humanitarian assistance, socio-economic development, and the ongoing Mindanao Peace Process, including decommissioning initiatives and institutional capacity-building programs.
He also expressed hope for a free, fair, peaceful, and orderly BARMM parliamentary election in September.
During the visit, Lee met with BARMM Chief Minister Abdulraof Macacua and inspected development projects supported by organizations such as the Korea International Cooperation Agency, Ithe nternational Organization for Migration, and UNICEF.
South Korea’s assistance includes major health, education, and governance projects, as well as rice aid and regional initiatives aimed at promoting resilience and sustainable development in Mindanao.
