Senator Juan Miguel Zubiri has expressed hope that contentious provisions in the 2025 national budget will be addressed before President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. signs it into law.
Key concerns include reduced funding for the Department of Education’s computerization program and the absence of funding for the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth).
Zubiri emphasized that resolving these issues could prevent potential legal challenges in the Supreme Court, which might declare the budget unconstitutional and delay its implementation.
The President is scheduled to sign the General Appropriations Act on December 30, with certain provisions expected to be vetoed in the interest of public welfare.
Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin has indicated that specific items will be vetoed, though details have not been disclosed.
