Senator Bam Aquino is urging a probe into the government’s flood control projects following widespread flooding caused by three consecutive cyclones and persistent southwest monsoon rains.
At least 25 people have died, and over 1,213 areas were reported flooded due to these weather events.
Despite P360 billion allocated for flood management in the 2025 budget, Aquino noted little visible improvement and questioned whether the funds were properly used.
He plans to file a resolution for the investigation when the 20th Congress opens on July 28, aiming to assess the effectiveness of flood control measures.
The Department of Public Works and Highways said nearly 9,856 flood control projects have been completed, with about 5,700 more ongoing through 2026.
