On Wednesday, the Senate adopted Senate Resolution 1142 to honor former Speaker Jose de Venecia Jr. for his significant contributions to Philippine politics and society.
Senate President Francis Escudero highlighted that de Venecia mentored many current senators and had a profound impact on their careers.
The resolution, supported by all senators, recognizes de Venecia’s achievements, including his leadership during five terms as Speaker, his role in passing landmark legislation, and his efforts in peacebuilding and international cooperation.
De Venecia, the co-founder of the Lakas-Christian Muslim Democrats, also made notable contributions to Asian integration and diplomatic efforts.
The resolution acknowledges his extensive public service, including his advocacy for Filipino overseas workers and his work in environmental and peace initiatives.
