The Senate is on alert and reported a spike in cyberattacks last Sunday, October 16, 2023, the same day hackers targeted the House of Representatives website.
Senate Secretary Renato Bantug Jr. said that the Senate already has an application firewall, which helps protect the website, but its technology team “made adjustments” to bolster security.
“Per our IT, we recorded a spike in attacks last Sunday,” he added.
The House of Representatives website was hacked on Sunday morning, showing a troll face meme and the statement: “You’ve been hacked. Have a nice day. Happy April Fullz Kahit October palang! Fix your Website.”
This recent cyberattack on the House of Representatives website highlights the need for the country to beef up its cybersecurity.
Lawmakers have been stressing the need to secure more funds for the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) to improve the country’s cybersecurity infrastructure and capabilities.
