SENATE EXTENDS SESSION TO DEC. 29 FOR 2026 BUDGET REVIEW

The Senate on Monday approved an extension of its session until December 29, 2025, to allow lawmakers more time to review and ratify the proposed ₱6.793-trillion national budget for 2026.

Senate President Vicente “Tito” Sotto III emphasized that the extension ensures transparency, accuracy, and accountability in the budget process and prevents a rushed or blind approval.

The additional days will enable senators to thoroughly examine the bicameral conference committee report, reconciling differences between the Senate and House versions of the General Appropriations Bill.

Senate Majority Leader Juan Miguel Zubiri noted that the House approved a similar calendar amendment to coordinate deliberations between the two chambers.

Once ratified, the budget will be transmitted to President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. for review and signature.
