Contractor Curlee Discaya and three dismissed DPWH engineers will spend the holidays in Senate detention after their request for Christmas furlough was denied, Senate President Pro Tempore Panfilo Lacson said.
Lacson cited security concerns and the risk of escape, noting public statements that arrest warrants against the detainees could be issued before Christmas.
The four were cited in contempt and detained for allegedly lying during the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee’s investigation into anomalous flood control projects.
They will be allowed to attend Mass and receive family visits within Senate premises but will not be permitted to leave custody.
Meanwhile, Discaya’s wife Sarah has been arrested and jailed in Lapu-Lapu City over a non-bailable malversation case linked to an alleged ₱96.5-million ghost flood control project.
