Sen. Imee Marcos has filed a resolution calling for a Senate investigation into the alleged large-scale issuance of fraudulent 9G working visas to foreign nationals using fake Alien Employment Permits (AEPs).
The resolution cites past incidents, including thousands of visas issued to foreigners claiming employment in fictitious companies, and points to possible collusion, corruption, and lapses in inter-agency coordination between the Bureau of Immigration and DOLE.
Reports indicate that as many as 1,200 AEPs were recently processed under a single company’s name, despite authorization for only eight foreign workers.
Senate Resolution 193 directs the appropriate committee to conduct an inquiry to determine the full extent of the anomalies, identify responsible parties, and assess whether existing laws are sufficient to prevent abuse.
The investigation will scrutinize visa processing, agent accreditation, inter-agency data sharing, and safeguards against identity and document fraud, citing concerns for national security, labor protection, and public trust.
