SCTEX CRASH LEADS TO SUSPENSION OF SOLID NORTH BUS OPERATIONS

The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) has suspended 15 units of Dagupan Bus Co. for 30 days following a fatal crash at the SCTEX toll plaza involving a Solid North bus.

The suspension affects buses operating on the Lingayen-Cubao route and includes several conditions, such as mandatory road safety seminars, drug testing, and roadworthiness inspections.

The LTFRB also mandated the surrender of the suspended units’ license plates and authorized authorities to impound any units found operating during the suspension period.

Criminal charges have been filed against the bus driver, Teodoro Merjan, for the deadly collision, which resulted in 10 deaths and 37 injuries.

Calls for reform have emerged, with critics urging a thorough investigation into Solid North Transit’s operations and working conditions.
