Vice President Sara Duterte declared on Wednesday that she will not resign from her position, despite calls from lawmakers criticizing her handling of the Office of the Vice President’s budget.
In a press conference, she addressed allegations of fund misuse being investigated by the House of Representatives, emphasizing that the ongoing scrutiny stems from a lack of impeachment evidence against her.
Duterte rejected the resignation option presented by Ako Bicol Party-list Rep. Raul Angelo Bongalon, stating she is accountable to the 32 million voters who elected her.
She also highlighted her absence from budget discussions, claiming that the budget is controlled by key House leaders, and expressed her intent to participate in upcoming Senate budget deliberations.
Meanwhile, House Committee on Good Government chairman Joel Chua insisted that the inquiry into the OVP’s fund usage is focused on ensuring accountability, not political motivations, as concerns grow over potentially misused confidential funds exceeding legal thresholds for plunder.
